One of the largest sections of the original Town Crier was \u201cWhat People Are Doing,\u201d highlighting things like, \u201cMiss Catherine Poe has invitations out for a dinner dance for the younger set,\u201d and, \u201cChopin\u2019s \u2018Military Polonaise\u2019 was played on the piano by Gladys Bezeau on Sunday afternoon.\u201d In this series we\u2019re revisiting the old column and tying it to our community\u2019s current happenings, asking: \u201cwhat <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people doing?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today\u2019s entry\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There was a small mention by <em>Town Crier<\/em> writers in the July 12, 1929 edition of the Seattle Garden Club. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Seattle Garden Club visited the gardens in The Highlands on Tuesday afternoon,\u201d it noted. Among those in attendance was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcollections.lib.washington.edu\/digital\/collection\/imlsmohai\/id\/8289\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs. C.D. Stimson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Mrs. Archibald Stewart Downey, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.historylink.org\/File\/7184\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs. Scott Bullitt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\/history\/pioneers\/william-e-boeing.page\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs. William E. Boeing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Mrs. John H. Ballinger, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frederick_%26_Nelson\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs. D.E. Frederick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Mrs. M.A. Arnold, and Mrs. Thomas Stimson. The afternoon was brought to a close with a \u201cdelightful tea\u201d at the home of Mrs. Ballinger. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What\u2019s also delightful besides tea? The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlegardenclub.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Seattle Garden Club<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> continues to bloom to this day. The Seattle Garden Club was founded in 1917 by a group of women who shared a love of gardening. SGC became affiliated with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcamerica.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Garden Club of America<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in 1923, and continues to be so.
