Every week the Town Crier blog will look back at Seattle\u2019s near-forgotten <\/span><\/i>Town Crier<\/span> magazine to see what was happening then and talk about what\u2019s happening now. One of the largest sections of the original Town Crier was \u201cWhat People Are Doing,\u201d highlighting things like, \u201cAdmiral Robert E. Koontz entertained with a dinner aboard the USS Oregon\u201d and, \u201cPatrons of the Orthopedic Tea Shop are notified that an excellent tea will be served every afternoon at five o\u2019clock.\u201d In this series we\u2019re revisiting the old column and tying it to our community\u2019s current happenings, asking: \u201cwhat <\/span><\/i>are <\/span>people doing?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

On the cover of the October 18, 1919 edition of the <\/span>Town Crier<\/span><\/i> was the distinguished gentleman John Spargur, the conductor of the Seattle Symphony from 1911 to 1921. The newspaper was touting their first show of the 1919 season that was to happen on November 7. On the repertoire was Beethoven\u2019s Seventh Symphony, and Gustave Charpentier\u2019s <\/span>Impressions of Italy<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today\u2019s Seattle Symphony is now under the direction of Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard, their concerts the weekend of November 7 will include <\/span>the movie music of John Williams<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Town Hall has their own classical music series. Curated by artistic director Joshua Roman, our Town Music season started last month with a stirring <\/span>cello show<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Piano Ki Avaaz<\/span><\/a>, featuring Joshua Roman (cello), David Fung (piano), and Kristin Lee (violin).<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Catalyst Quartet<\/span><\/a>, presenting \u201cHemispheres: South America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

April 8, 2020:<\/span>
\n<\/span>yMusic<\/span><\/a>, a sextet that reimagines the classical music genre.<\/span><\/p>\n

May 20, 2020:<\/span>
\n<\/span>Spektral Quartet<\/span><\/a>, that presents a convergence of classical canon and modern composition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tickets are $15 per show ($10 for members). Tickets are FREE for anyone 22 and under. <\/span><\/p>\n
