One of the largest sections of the original Town Crier was \u201cWhat People Are Doing,\u201d highlighting things like, \u201cAdmiral Robert E. Koontz entertained with a dinner aboard the USS Oregon\u201d and, \u201cPatrons of the Orthopedic Tea Shop are notified that an excellent tea will be served every afternoon at five o\u2019clock.\u201d In this series we\u2019re revisiting the old column and tying it to our community\u2019s current happenings, asking: \u201cwhat <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people doing?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today\u2019s entry\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-46198\" src=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/John-Spargur-440x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the cover of the October 18, 1919 edition of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Town Crier<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was the distinguished gentleman John Spargur, the conductor of the Seattle Symphony from 1911 to 1921. The newspaper was touting their first show of the 1919 season that was to happen on November 7. On the repertoire was Beethoven\u2019s Seventh Symphony, and Gustave Charpentier\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Rd10NSs6oxQ\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Impressions of Italy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today\u2019s Seattle Symphony is now under the direction of Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard, their concerts the weekend of November 7 will include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlesymphony.org\/concerttickets\/calendar\/2019-2020\/symphony\/pops2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the movie music of John Williams<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Town Hall has their own classical music series. Curated by artistic director Joshua Roman, our Town Music season started last month with a stirring <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/you-had-me-at-cello\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cello show<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Upcoming concerts include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">November 25, 2019:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/piano-ki-avaaz\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Piano Ki Avaaz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, featuring Joshua Roman (cello), David Fung (piano), and Kristin Lee (violin).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">January 19, 2020:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/catalyst-quartet\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Catalyst Quartet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, presenting \u201cHemispheres: South America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">April 8, 2020:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/ymusic\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">yMusic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a sextet that reimagines the classical music genre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">May 20, 2020:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/spektral-quartet\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spektral Quartet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, that presents a convergence of classical canon and modern composition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tickets are $15 per show ($10 for members).
