One of the largest sections of the original Town Crier was \u201cWhat People Are Doing,\u201d highlighting things like, \u201cYoungsters, taking advantage of the cold snap, have hunted up the old ice skates of various vintages and are indulging themselves in the rare sport of skating,\u201d and, \u201cA party of ten married couples dined \u2018Dutch\u2019 last Wednesday evening.\u201d In this series we\u2019re revisiting the old column and tying it to our community\u2019s current happenings, asking: \u201cwhat <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people doing?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today\u2019s entry\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There was happiness and rejoicing in the December 13 edition of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Town Crier<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in regards to a Saturday concert. \u201cThere is going to be a wonderful treat given to the children of Seattle,&#8221; the <em>Town Crier<\/em> proclaimed. The Seattle Symphony, with the help of one Louise Van Ogle, would be doing a children\u2019s concert. \u201cThe concert, which will be given in Meany Hall, will open with the \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AwO0TxqCkGk\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">March of the Toys<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019 after Mrs. Van Ogle tells a story about the toys that will take part in the parade.\u201d It continues, \u201cOf course there will be a good many of them because they come from the workshop of the Wizard of Oz and everybody knows what a wonderful toymaker he was.\u201d The concert concluded with some <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aMSmb9UZ2r4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fancy Claude Debussy numbers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Readers, you\u2019ll be happy to know that there will be a wonderful treat given to the children of Seattle on January 18. Town Hall will be doing a children\u2019s concert. As part of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event-listings\/arts-culture\/saturday-family-concerts\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Town Hall\u2019s Saturday Family Concert series<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Senegalese percussionist Thione Diop will perform in Town Hall\u2019s Forum. Diope\u2019s powerfully expressive Djembe drumming evokes the heart of the instrument as a traditional cultural icon from West African used to call the people together. It\u2019ll be a concert filled with music, dance, and culture.
