One of the largest sections of the original Town Crier was \u201cWhat People Are Doing,\u201d highlighting things like, \u201cA number of friends motored up to Seattle to partake in a dinner dance hosted by Mrs. Edward Agnew,\u201d and, \u201cMrs. Darrah Corbett celebrated Christmas day with a tree.\u201d In this series we\u2019re revisiting the old column and tying it to our community\u2019s current happenings, asking: \u201cwhat <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people doing?\u201d<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today\u2019s entry\u2026<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Seattle Symphony placed an ad in the December 27, 1919 edition of the <em>Town Crier.<\/em> They were excited about their coming January 20 performance of Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No. 3, his \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=InxT4S6wQf4\">Eroica<\/a>\u201d symphony. Tickets were priced at 50 cents to two dollars.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speaking of Beethoven, 2020 is the 250 anniversary of his birth. On January 12 Town Hall will host <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/scms-winter-festival-preview\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Seattle Chamber Music Society\u2019s Winter Festival Preview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Taking place in the Forum, Beethoven scholar Geoffrey Block, musicologist and author of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pugetsound.edu\/news-and-events\/campus-news\/details\/1507\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experiencing Beethoven: A Listener\u2019s Companion<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, will present a brief overview of the composition of Beethoven\u2019s string quartets, which traversed the breadth of his compositional life. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event is only $5 (free for anyone under the age of 22).
