One of the largest sections of the original Town Crier was \u201cWhat People Are Doing,\u201d highlighting things like, \u201cMrs. Nathaniel Parschall will be the hostess of a dansant at the Red Cross lunchroom\u201d and, \u201cMrs. Grace Matters spoke on Thursday at noon about food conservation.\u201d In this series we\u2019re revisiting the old column and tying it to our community\u2019s current happenings, asking: \u201cwhat <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">people doing?\u201d<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today\u2019s entry\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-48338\" src=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/French-460x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the cover of the December 7, 1918 edition of the<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Town Crier<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was the dashing Lucien Perrot. Perrot, for years, had been teaching the citizens of Seattle the French language and was a professor at the University of Washington for the Student Army Training Corps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Student Army Training Corps is no longer. UW continues its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/frenchitalian.washington.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">French language studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But did you know there\u2019s a place in Seattle where anyone can learn the French language from children to adults? <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C\u2019est vrai<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! It\u2019s true!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afseattle.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alliance Francaise<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is in the Wallingford neighborhood. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, it offers French language classes to all ages and levels and offers French and Francophone cultural events locally.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can learn about their languages classes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afseattle.org\/learn-french\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and their coming cultural events <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afseattle.org\/cultural-center\/cultural-programs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn something new.
