{"id":64404,"date":"2024-04-29T18:59:50","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T01:59:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/?p=64404"},"modified":"2024-04-29T18:59:55","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T01:59:55","slug":"announcing-wier-harman-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/announcing-wier-harman-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcing Wier Harman Way!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>A dedicated city block in honor of our former executive director<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/800x400-General-Web-image-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-64406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/800x400-General-Web-image-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/800x400-General-Web-image-1-480x240.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 800px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Wier loved Town Hall, but what he loved even more was our community. <strong>His innate belief that we\u2019re better together is something to hold close. <\/strong>We know that many people will continue honoring Wier as they walk through Town Hall\u2019s doors and to serve as an even more meaningful reminder of Wier\u2019s impact on Seattle, <strong>we\u2019re proud to announce that the city block where Town Hall stands has been dedicated as Wier Harman Way by the City of Seattle <\/strong>\u2014 a small token of appreciation for a man who meant so much to so many. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proclamation read at City Hall on April 9 will hang proudly in the Town Hall building as a constant reminder of Wier\u2019s legacy and dedication to the mission of Town Hall. He\u2019s in every corner of the Town Hall building, and now his legacy will extend onto our street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read on below for the full proclamation \u2014 or click the video to watch Wier\u2019s wife, Barbara Sauermann and Town Hall Board Member, Yazmin Mehdi, at City Hall when the proclamation was passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Resolution - Wier Harman Way\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YEvQARdtbUM?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHEREAS<\/strong>, Wier Harman moved to Seattle twice, once as a company member of Annex Theater and once as the executive director of Town Hall. &#8220;I came back to Seattle because I always had it \u2014 even after I left \u2014 I always had it still in my heart,&#8221; he said; and\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHEREAS<\/strong>, under Wier&#8217;s stewardship Town Hall grew into a key organization in the regional arts and culture ecosystem, merging civic engagement, community building, and cultural&nbsp; activity, presenting artists and organizers from around the world, and drawing the Seattle cultural community closer together; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHEREAS<\/strong>, Wier brought a deep generosity of spirit and an excitement for possible futures to all of his personal friendships and all of his professional dealings; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHEREAS<\/strong>, Wier led Town Hall through a $35.5 million capital project, he co-founded the Downtown Historic Theater District, he co-produced over 400 events a year, and he presided over the radical expansion of access and inclusiveness at Town Hall; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHEREAS<\/strong>, Governor Jay Inslee remembered Wier, saying &#8220;Wier was a particular kind of&nbsp; genius. His genius was one of mutuality, of harmony, of provoking and inspiring genius in others. In getting people to see it in others.
