At one\u00a0point\u00a0she said, very\u00a0matter-of-factly, \u201cThis\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0unprecedented. History moves in cycles.\u00a0It\u2019s happened all over the world, over and over again.\u00a0People live through moments like this, and they keep going.\u201d\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0been thinking about that ever since.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>Last week, I stood in the back of The Great Hall as hundreds of people stood and applauded Representative Pramila Jayapal. She talked about civic engagement \u2014 about showing up for what you believe in and making sure people hear you. You could feel the energy in the room shift. Not in a dramatic way, just\u2026 people feeling something together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>A few days later, I was in the Wyncote NW Forum for <a href=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/speaking-of-seattle-2\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/townhallseattle.org\/event\/speaking-of-seattle-2\/\">Speaking of Seattle<\/a>, listening to a conversation about the news economy. One of the speakers said something that stuck with me:&nbsp;we&nbsp;have to&nbsp;be thoughtful about the information we take in. And providing reliable, trustworthy information is part of how communities stay grounded \u2014 especially when things feel unstable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>None of these moments were exactly the same.&nbsp;But together, they reminded me of something I see here all the time: <strong>people trying to make sense of things together.<\/strong> People&nbsp;trying&nbsp;to stay connected to each other, even when the world feels complicated, overwhelming, or uncertain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>If&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;feeling any of that right now,&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;not alone. You&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;have to have everything figured out to show up.&nbsp;Sometimes showing up looks like taking action.&nbsp;Sometimes it looks like listening. Sometimes it looks&nbsp;like&nbsp;resting. Sometimes it just looks like sitting in a room with other people who are also trying to understand&nbsp;what\u2019s&nbsp;going on.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>Across our community, people are finding&nbsp;different ways&nbsp;to support their neighbors and this city. If&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;looking for places to start, you might consider learning more about organizations doing direct work in our region,&nbsp;including the&nbsp;Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (<a href=\"https:\/\/waisn.org\/\">WAISN<\/a>),&nbsp;Advocates for Immigrants in Detention Northwest (<a href=\"https:\/\/aidnw.org\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/aidnw.org\/\">AIDNW<\/a>), the&nbsp;Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (<a href=\"https:\/\/nwirp.org\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/nwirp.org\/\">NWIRP<\/a>), or the&nbsp;ACLU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/action\">action and education resources<\/a>. You might consider signing up for Representative Jayapal\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pramilaforcongress.com\/the-resistance-lab\">Resistance Lab<\/a>.&nbsp;And you might support&nbsp;neighbors in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standwithminnesota.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.standwithminnesota.com\/\">Minnesota<\/a>, who&nbsp;are organizing and protecting their&nbsp;communities.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>And&nbsp;maybe you\u2019ll&nbsp;join us at Town Hall for an event.&nbsp;Maybe to&nbsp;find joy in music or listen to a book talk.&nbsp;Maybe to&nbsp;think about power, freedom, and what democracy looks like.
